New Season – Captains’ Note

Fixtures for next season begin Saturday 25th September. We wish to have as
many players as possible for the first few games to help us with the
selection process. So when planning to come back to Uni for pre-season,
bear in mind that there are matches on the Saturday prior to pre-season.

Pre-season

see everybody there so put it in your diaries!!

Granny Pott’s Review of the Season (2nd Team)

5 Freshers, 5 Not-so fresh, 2 Oldies, 2 Token Grannies, 2 Gingers, 1 Wizard, 1 Refresher, 1 Oompa Loompa, 1 Australian, 1 Gem, 1 English Cavegirl, some Waterproof Mascara, 1 Seagull, 1 Can of Pepsi Max, 0 Goalie Kits, 2 Minibus Drivers (1 better than the other), 1 Horse, 1 Shoelace, 1 International Squash player, 2 Very Dodgy names and 13 bffs each; the 2s have formed a fantastic squad this season.

In BUCS, the 2’s have had a couple of great results, particularly drawing 0-0 with Cov Poly 1s, setting us up nicely for the shoeeeeeeing of the poly that Cov 2s will witness at Varsity. However, as many a wise captain before me has said: the only way is up. And I am most certain that next year the 2s will have a very enjoyable season of experiencing many shoeeeings on Wednesdays (especially against my faves Staffs 1s), and climbing their way back to where we deserve to be.

On Saturday’s, the 2s have had some very close games, only losing by more than one goal 4 times all season. Having been the better side for most games featuring narrow losses, Warwick 2s can be proud of the standard of hockey that they have produced, how hard they have worked and the team spirit in which they have played.

However, it could quite possibly be off the pitch where the 2s have been most successful, one of our best achievements of the season being shoeing the Oxford Poly in a boat race, which funnily enough is the same day the goalie kit went astray…

Big hand to the 6 members of the current 2s squad that will be on the Exec next year, and good luck in particular to Geri, who I know will make a fab 2s captain next year (even if she isn’t as old AKA wise as me).

On behalf of Lou, Nicola and Chesney and myself, thank you all for making our last UWLHC season such a good one, and not making us feel too ancient (though what’s with this new hip word “obvy”? Wasn’t like this in ye olde days).

This year the 2s have provided me with plenty of memories to escape with, and some great new excuses (freshers) to keep coming back to relive “the old days” at any opportunity. My team photo will stand forever on my (currently imaginary) mantelpiece and I am very proud and honoured to have captained you all this season.

Hattie’s review of the season (3rd Team)

This season has been amazing. As a team we have developed together thanks to the dedication of each player and of course our coach. The season started promisingly with a 1-0 win against Harper Adams and a special mention must go again to Gemma Cargill who played in goal, despite having never having played in there before. The next match  (the cup match)was not quite as good, resulting in a 3-0 defeat against Anglia Ruskin but then again, they DID have an England player, so that can be excused. However, the next 2 matches showed us to be back on form and we won them both convincingly (2-0 and 9-0). Mary has requested that I mention us stealing the boys bus on the way to Worcester (accidently), a steal which I think made us win 9-0. The biggest match of the season was against Birmingham City (second in the league). We managed to draw the first time we played them and then destroy them 12-0 the second time. I think that shows definite improvement!!!Thank you to everyone who trained and played with us, I had such a fun season and I hope everyone else did too. Congratulation goes to Hannah Finster for being player of the season and Izi Benton-Slim for most improved. Good luck to Sophie next year and well done everyone for WINNING THE LEAGUE!!!

P.S. We got a trophy at the Sports Ball for winning our league!

Fun Indoor Tournament

May 3, 2010
12:30 pmto4:30 pm

Ok girls, this year’s indoor tournament will be on Monday 3rd May (Monday week 2) from 12:30-4:30 in the main sports hall. It is bank holiday and as far as I know everyone has it off from lectures.

The boys will be joining us for a fun tournament which will have prizes for the winning teams. It is for all standards so don’t worry if you have never played indoor before (most people haven’t!) or even hockey as everyone is welcome.

If everyone can sign up before Wednesday week 1, then I can sort everyone into teams and tell everyone what colour to wear (colours rather than fancy dress have been requested)

Please sign up or ask me any questions on the indoor section of the forum :)

Congratulations to all the girls who took the Level One Theory Test

Well done to Mary, Hattie, Geri, Wheezy, Zoetron, Martha, Claire, Charlotte C, Charlotte J, Sam and Sophie who all passed their Level One Umpiring Theory test.

Everyone passed, so well done! Now you just need to pass the practical assessment, which can be arranged next season when you’re ready. You will all be such a great help to Martha next year.

:)

Big Hand to the UWHC Stafford Half-Marathon Runners

Congratulations to Tona, Sink, Hattie, Sandip, Mary, Geri and the boys who completed the Stafford Half-Marathon this morning and for raising more than their £1500 target, which will go towards Kenilworth Helping Hands & The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign.
Big Big hand guys!

Charity 7×7x7 Netball Tournament!

March 11, 2010
10:00 amto3:00 pm

So we are lucky enough to have been invited to play against one of the netball teams in their annual charity 7×7x7 tournament.

This takes place next Thursday (Week 9)  in the main sports hall from 10-3. We won’t need to be there the whole time, they are going to let us know when our match is.

I played last year and it was great fun, no excuses about being rubbish it’s for charity after all! A small donation to play I think and they had cakes and things on sale last year.

So head on over to the forum and sign up under General! I will definitely be there!
