Granny Pott’s Review of the Season (2nd Team)

5 Freshers, 5 Not-so fresh, 2 Oldies, 2 Token Grannies, 2 Gingers, 1 Wizard, 1 Refresher, 1 Oompa Loompa, 1 Australian, 1 Gem, 1 English Cavegirl, some Waterproof Mascara, 1 Seagull, 1 Can of Pepsi Max, 0 Goalie Kits, 2 Minibus Drivers (1 better than the other), 1 Horse, 1 Shoelace, 1 International Squash player, 2 Very Dodgy names and 13 bffs each; the 2s have formed a fantastic squad this season.

In BUCS, the 2’s have had a couple of great results, particularly drawing 0-0 with Cov Poly 1s, setting us up nicely for the shoeeeeeeing of the poly that Cov 2s will witness at Varsity. However, as many a wise captain before me has said: the only way is up. And I am most certain that next year the 2s will have a very enjoyable season of experiencing many shoeeeings on Wednesdays (especially against my faves Staffs 1s), and climbing their way back to where we deserve to be.

On Saturday’s, the 2s have had some very close games, only losing by more than one goal 4 times all season. Having been the better side for most games featuring narrow losses, Warwick 2s can be proud of the standard of hockey that they have produced, how hard they have worked and the team spirit in which they have played.

However, it could quite possibly be off the pitch where the 2s have been most successful, one of our best achievements of the season being shoeing the Oxford Poly in a boat race, which funnily enough is the same day the goalie kit went astray…

Big hand to the 6 members of the current 2s squad that will be on the Exec next year, and good luck in particular to Geri, who I know will make a fab 2s captain next year (even if she isn’t as old AKA wise as me).

On behalf of Lou, Nicola and Chesney and myself, thank you all for making our last UWLHC season such a good one, and not making us feel too ancient (though what’s with this new hip word “obvy”? Wasn’t like this in ye olde days).

This year the 2s have provided me with plenty of memories to escape with, and some great new excuses (freshers) to keep coming back to relive “the old days” at any opportunity. My team photo will stand forever on my (currently imaginary) mantelpiece and I am very proud and honoured to have captained you all this season.

Love Potts xxx
